Penn College 3rd, Woodruff Most Outstanding

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Penn College had two individual champions, including the most outstanding wrestler, one second-place finisher and two third-place finishers to end third with 130 points among eight teams in its own invitational on Saturday.
 
How it happened: Claiming titles were Nick Woodruff at 197 pounds and Kaden Ware at 133, with Woodruff being named the Most Outstanding. Placing second for the Wildcats was Justin Adams at 125, and third were Blake Dergham at 133 and Luke Heimbach at 125.
 
Also for Penn College, Aiden Osborne (184), Gavin Gomes (157), Isaac McGregor (141), Josh Howard (165), Nicholai Brotzman (285) and TJ Martin (149) finished fifth in their respective weight classes, and Ayden Sprague was sixth (165).
 
Inside the box: In finishing 4-0, Woodruff opened with a fall in 1:28 before winning back-to-back technical falls by scores of 16-0 and 15-0. He capped his day with a 13-10 decision over Castleton's Josh Negron.
 
Ware, also going 4-0, decked his first opponent in 1:48, then won a 19-6 major decision, scored a pin in 2:09 and won his title with a 15-0 technical fall over Castleton's Stone Farnsworth.
 
Adams had a 3-1 day after opening with back-to-back pins and scoring a 9-5 decision before falling in the finale 4-1 to Marymount's Ian Morales.
 
Dergham, 3-1, scored a fall and major decision before losing 4-2 to Farnsworth and closing out his day with a 13-3 major decision win over Alvernia's James King.
 
Heimbach, 3-1, began with a technical fall win, and followed with a pin, 4-2 loss by decision to Marymount's Morales and then edged Scranton's Joseph Cappello 15-14.
 
Brotzman was 4-1 all on falls, Martin was 4-1, Gomes was 3-1, Osborne, McGregor and Howard all were 2-1 and Sprague was 1-2.
 
The field: Castleton led the way with 160 points and was followed by Alvernia 132, Penn College 130, Marymount University 105, Scranton 89.5, Thaddeus Stevens 34.5, Waynesburg 33 and Randolph College 17.
 
Up next: Penn College will compete at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 7, in the Elizabethtown Blue Jay Classic.
