Wildcats Fall in Nail-Biter Against Norwich

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Penn College men's basketball dropped a nail-biting, 66-65 final in its final nonconference contest of the season against Norwich on Sunday. The Wildcats dropped its second game of the Florida Sunshine Shootout and fell to 4-7 on the season while the Cadets improved to 8-2.

How it happened: In a game which saw nine lead changes and four ties, neither side mounted a double-digit lead as the contest came down to the final seconds. After Michael Woolridge pulled Penn College ahead, 53-52 with four minutes remaining, Norwich used a 9-0 run to gain its largest lead of the day, 61-53 with 1:46 left.

The Wildcats clawed back to get within four, 61-57 with 43 seconds left following a layup by Livingston Cross and a pair of free throws by Ronn Flood Jr. Later Flood drained a three to pull within two, but the Cadets hit 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch as time ran out for the Wildcats comeback.

Penn College held a 29-27 lead at halftime as Cross was on his way to another double-double performance with 12 points and six rebounds. 

Inside the box: Cross finished with a game-high 23 points and 14 rebounds for his second-straight double-double in the Sunshine Shootout. Gavin Barrett joined Cross in double-digit scoring with 12 points and added seven assists and three rebounds. Christian Chandler scored nine points and Julien Leveille added eight. 

Norwich benefitted from four double-digit scorers, led by Jalen Olivero's 20 points. The Cadets held a slight edge in shooting percentage, 37% (25-67) to 36% (24-67) and a 9-5 edge in made 3-pointers.
