WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College fell, 89-76 to visiting Alfred University on Tuesday night in nonconference men's basketball inside Bardo Gym. The Wildcats record dropped to 3-5 overall while the Saxons improved to 2-4.
How it happened: The Saxon's hit 12 of their 17 3-pointers in the first half and were 50% from beyond-the-arc to control possession of the game. Despite the Saxons landing five of their first 11 shots from three, the Wildcats were in front, 16-15, with a
Landon Reeder bucket on an assist from
Gavin Barrett at the 12:46 mark in the first half. Alfred University hit four more 3s and used a 21-6 run over the ensuing four minutes of action to gain a 14-point lead, 36-22, before Barrett nailed back-to-back 3s and get the Wildcats within eight, 36-28 with seven minutes to go.
Alfred held on for a 49-36 lead at the half and kept a three-score advantage through the second half as the Wildcats pulled within seven on a
Christian Chandler free throw at the 17:06 mark and a
Livingston Cross three with 15 minutes remaining.
Inside the box: Barrett nearly posted a triple-double as he finished with a career-best 33 points to go along with 10 assists and seven boards. He is just seven points from tying the program's NCAA-era career total set by Ben Sosa. Cross added 18 points and seven rebounds while
Ronn Flood, Jr., (12) also finished in double-digit scoring and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds for the Wildcats.Â
Amoi Charles hit five 3s for 32 points to lead Alfred as the Saxons finished the night shooting 47.7% (31-65) while hitting 17-of-40 from 3-point range.Â
