ABINGTON, Pa. — Penn College women's basketball's season came to an end on Saturday in the first round of the United East Volt Division playoffs after a 71-46 loss at Penn State Abington. The sixth-seeded Wildcats finish 2-11 in all conference games and 6-20 overall. Third-seeded Abington advances with records of 8-5 in the UE and 12-14 overall.
How it happened: Abington grabbed an early lead and stretched it to 12 at 16-4 in the opening period before Penn College went on a 9-2 run over the last 4:02 with Emily Pardee scoring six points and Rachel Teats the other three.
The home team regained a double-digit lead midway through the second quarter and closed out the half on top, 28-20.
A 12-4 start in the third quarter gave Abington a 16-point lead at 40-27 and it upped its lead to 18 at 50-32 with just over a minute left in the frame before treys by Lexi Troup and Teats trimmed the difference to 12 points at the turn for home.
In the fourth period, Abington continued to pull away, led by as many as 32 points at 71-39, and won by 25.
Inside the box: Troup ended the game with a team-high 12 points and Teats scored 11. Pardee had seven rebounds and five assists to lead in both of those categories.
Amirah Hackney led Penn State Abington with 26 points and Angela Sanders scored 19. The Nittany Lions scored 34 points off 28 Wildcat turnovers as a team.
