MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- The Penn College men's basketball team fought to the very end in its first United East Volt Division Semifinal appearance at top-seeded Penn State Harrisburg on Monday night. The Wildcats dropped a 92-79 final to cap their season at 10-16. Harrisburg improves to 22-4 and advances to the UE Volt Championship game.
How it happened: Penn College went on a 14-0 run spanning from the 14:53 mark to the 10:41 mark of the second half when
Gavin Barrett's three made the score 68-63 in favor of the fourth-seeded visitors. Harrisburg responded to tie the contest at 68 and held on for the final seven minutes.
The Wildcats pulled within one possession with five minutes remaining on a
Ronn Flood, Jr., four-point play, but it was the closest PCT could get to coming away with the playoff upset on the road.Â
The two sides played a tight first-half as neither side could get more than a five-point advantage and settled for a 47-47 halftime score after Barrett found
Alec Cooper for the buzzer-beating two-pointer.Â
Inside the box: Livingston Cross led the Wildcats with 26 points in the game while Barrett and
Landon Reeder both settled for 15 and Flood, Jr., added 12. Barrett finished an assist shy for a double-double adding nine assists and six rebounds.Â
The Wildcats won the turnover battle, 12-15 and shot 43.8% (28-64) in the contest, but a venue-record 42 points for Harrisburg's Donyae Carroll-Baylor was the difference.Â
