LANCASTER, Pa. — Penn College wrapped up a three-game United East series with a pair of setback against Lancaster Bible Saturday. The Wildcats fell 3-2 in the first game and 10-0 in the nightcap. Penn College dropped to 4-8 overall and 0-3 in the conference, while Chargers improved to 9-4, 3-0.
In game one,
Just like in Friday night's series opener won by Lancaster Bible, the Wildcats out-hit the Chargers 8-5, but could only push two runs across the plate in support of starting pitcher
Jonas McGrath who allowed only five hits, walked four and struck out eight in taking the loss and dropping to 1-2.
Lancaster Bible scored in the second inning after a walk, single and wild pitch, and added two runs in the fourth after a walk, and two singles, with Evan Sareyka plating the two runs.
Penn College got single runs in the third and seventh innings. In the third,
Dallas Griess had a one-out single, stole second, and scored on a two-out single by
Shawn Townsend. In the seventh, Griess and
Quinn Hanafin opened the inning with back-to-back singles, and Griess eventually scored on another Townsend single.
Griess went 3 for 4 at the plate with two runs scored and Townsend went 3 for 4 with two RBIs. In the second game,
Jaiden Augustine finished 2 for 3.
In game two,
Lancaster Bible, with the help of five Penn College errors, scored once in the third inning, three times in both the fourth and fifth innings, once in the seventh and twice in the eighth to end the contest early.
Wildcats' starting pitcher
Griffin Vollman went 4.2 innings, allowing six hits and seven runs, four earned. For Lancaster Bible, Dylan Witkowski went the distance on the mound for the win, allowing six hits, striking out five and walking one.
Nick Colarossi plated two runs for the Chargers and Harrison Hobdy had two hits and scored three times.
