Softball Campaign Comes to a Close in NCAA Regional

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- The 2024 Penn College softball season came to a close on Friday afternoon in the 2024 NCAA Division III Bethlehem Regional as the Wildcats fell to Roanoke, 8-0. Penn College finished its season with a 30-12 record and a spot in the NCAA Tournament for the second time in four seasons.

How it happened: The Wildcats were limited to just two hits while the Maroons plated two runs in the first and six in the fourth in an elimination game to stay alive in the tournament.

After Roanoke took an early lead in the first, Hailey DeBrody tried to spark the offense with a one-out single and advanced on a sac bunt attempt from Ivvy Morder but a ground out ended the inning.

In the top of the fourth, the Maroons plated six runs on four hits to spread their lead to 8-0. In the bottom half, Grace Lorson reached on an error but a double-play and ground out ended the Wildcats' threat.

Down to the final at-bats and needing a run to extend the game in the bottom of the fifth inning, Colleen Cole hit a two-out single and advanced to second on a wild pitch before another ground out ended the game.

Inside the box: Fayth Anderson finished the season with  a 13-3 record in the circle as she struck out one and walked one while giving up six hits in 3.1 innings of action.
