MIDDLETOWN, Pa. -- Second-seeded Penn College enjoyed a 2-0 day in the United East Volt Division softball playoffs on Friday afternoon. The Wildcats defeated third-seeded Penn State Berks, 4-0 before a 7-4 final to take down tournament host and top-seeded Penn State Harrisburg to reach the divisional final. The Wildcats upped their season record to 27-9.
In game one,
Penn College jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning on
Lexi Snyder's RBI triple and
Mackenzie Weaver's one-run double to right.
Grace Lorson's double to right in the fifth made it 3-0 and Snyder followed with a single to plate Lorson and make it 4-0.

Snyder, Weaver, and
Madison Shaffer all finished with two hits for Penn College, while
Madison Herriman recorded a game-best two runs scored. Weaver fired a two-hit shutout, with six strikeouts, and one walk, to improve to 14-7.

In game two,
The Wildcats got off to another quick start with a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning with an RBI double off the bat of Maggie Mangene, and a pair of sac flies from Snyder and Weaver to score Mangne and Lorson, respectively. Harrisburg chipped away with a run in each of the first and third innings to pull within, 3-2 before Mangene stretched the Wildcats' lead back out to 5-2 with a two-run single, scoring
Sofia LaSpina and
Hailey DeBrody in the foruth.
The Wildcats added two more runs in the sixth when Herriman and Mangene both hit RBI-triples for a 7-2 lead. Harrisburg scratched over two runs in the bottom seventh, but the Wildcats shut the door with a game-ending strikeout from Weaver.
Mangene powered the Wildcat offense with a single, double and triple and drove in four runs.Herriman,
Lexi Snyder and Lorson all had two hits from the top of the lineup.
Fayth Anderson scattered five Nittany Lion hits in six innings to earn the victory and put the Wildcats in the Volt Division Final game.
Up next: Penn College will play in the Volt Division Final on Saturday at 1 p.m. against the winner of the elimination bracket.
