ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- Penn College fell to St. Mary's, 23-4 in the United East Men's Lacrosse Championship game on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats wrapped up their season with a 10-9 overall record and conference runner-up status for the second time in the program's four-year history, joining the 2021 squad.
How it happened: The top-seeded Seahawks scored the first two goals before
Harrison Schlachta found
AJ Dotson for the Wildcats' first goal at the 8:57 mark.
Will Ehret dished out an assist to
Brendan Kuczma at the 4:21 mark for the Wildcats' second goal in the first quarter.
St. Mary's went on a 17-goal run including a 10-goal second quarter to balloon its lead while adding six goals in the third and three in the fourth while the Wildcats were only able to register one goal in each of the third and fourth quarters.
Inside the box: Dotson scored two goals and Kuczma and
Aidan McFalls both scored once.
Alex Hammond collected nine saves and
Dax Shallis added eight saves between the pipes while
Jayden Hazzard scooped up a team-best five ground balls.
St. Mary's won 18-of-31 faceoffs and won the turnover battle, 24-8. Nate Hochrein (5 goals), Joshua Martel (4 goals) and Declan Horton (3 goals) all registered a hat-trick for the Seahawks.
