WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College men's soccer earned a 2-1 victory over Alfred State in its final nonconference contest of the regular season on Tuesday night on a soggy UPMC Field. The Wildcats enter United East action on Saturday with a 5-3-1 mark while the Pioneers fell to 6-3-0.
How it happened: Logan Pietrzak lifted the Wildcats to victory when he was all alone and streaking past the Alfred State defense until he was 1-on-1 with the Pioneers keeper and tucked the ball in the lower right corner for the go-ahead score in the 84th minute. It was just enough for the Wildcats to come out on top of a contest that saw just three combined shots on goal all game.
Penn College struck first as the rain started to fall when
Austin Stapleton sent in a cross for
Scott Goldfeder to clean up in front of the keeper in the 17th minute. The two sides were even over the next 25 minutes before Alfred State leveled the game with an unassisted goal in the 40th minute.
Inside the box: Alfred State outshot the Wildcats 11-6 and held a 6-2 corner kick advantage but
Cole Catherman saves two of the Pioneers three shots on goal to earn his fourth victory of the season.Â
Ryan Masi scored the lone goal for Alfred State.
