WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Penn College held of Gallaudet's second-half comeback effort to earn a 66-60 victory and a season sweep of the Bison in United East men's basketball action on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats improved to 5-5 in league games, 7-12 overall, while the Bison dropped to 2-8 UE, 2-16 overall.
How it happened: The Wildcats jumped out to a lead for much of the first half and gained its largest lead of the day after a
Gavin Barrett three with a minute remaining before half to hold a 37-27 lead. Gallaudet closed the half with a two-pointer just before the buzzer.Â
Gallaudet used the first four minutes of the second frame to regain a 40-39 lead. The Wildcats pulled back in front for good after a pair of
Ronn Flood, Jr., layups with seven minutes to go.
Colby Bost drained a three to give the offense some breathing room with a 58-54 lead on the next possession while the defense tightened up and never dropped the lead down the final five-minute stretch.Â
Inside the box: Cross posted a game-high 20 points and 12 rebounds to record his nation-leading 16th double-double this season and added three assists, one block and one steal. Barrett joined Cross in double-digit scoring with 13 points, grabbed six rebounds, had four assists, one steal and a block. Eight other Wildcats also got in the scoring column as the team shot 40% (24-60) in the win while the defense forced 17 GU turnovers.
