WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College's late lead against St. Elizabeth slipped away in a 51-46 nonconference women's basketball final Wednesday evening. The Wildcats fell to 9-3, the Eagles moved to 5-4.
How it happened: Entering the fourth quarter with a 42-40 PCT lead,
Gigi Parlante's jumper with seven minutes to play was the final time the Wildcats held a lead as St. Elizabeth closed with a 9-2 run over the final minutes. The Wildcats went just 1-for-11 in the run when
Kayla Herzer's layup to get the Wildcats within one, 47-46, and briefly halted the Eagles momentum with 1:33 on the clock.
St. Elizabeth started the night on a 5-0 run before Parlante's first bucket put the Wildcats on the board and start an 8-3 run to tie the score at 8-8. Parlante continued her hot start with 12 points in the opening quarter to give the Wildcats a 16-14 lead in the opening quarter.Â
Parlante grabbed her tenth rebound to secure her third-straight double-double and dished out an assist to
Breana Valentine for two with eight minutes to play in the second quarter before the two sides settled for a 28-28 tie at the break.Â
Inside the box: Parlante finished with 16 points and 18 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and a steal as the lone Wildcat to reach double figure scoring. Herzer nearly posted her own double-double with nine points and eight boards.
RaeAnna Andreas finished with seven points while Valentine and
Mia Patterson both scored six.
