Wildcats Fall in OT Thriller at NDMU

BALTIMORE -- Penn College dropped an overtime thriller in the season finale, 89-88 at Notre Dame (Md.) on Saturday afternoon. The Gators finished 13-12, 10-6 UE while the Wildcats capped the regular season with an 8-17 record, 6-10 in United East contests.

The Wildcats, who fell to the 12th seed in the playoffs when the final standings were released by the conference office will be on the road against fifth-seeded Saint Mary's (Md.) on Wednesday in the first round with a time to be determined.

How it happened: The Wildcats and Gators battled through 10 ties and 15 lead changes before the overtime buzzer sounded. Notre Dame led for the entire first half to hold a 40-33 lead at the break before Penn College came storming back out of the locker room.

The Wildcats went on a 15-1 run in the first four minutes of the second half to tie the game at 45-all with Livingston Cross scoring five points and Landon Reeder hitting a pair of baskets while Ronn Flood, Jr., Michael Woolridge and Gavin Barrett also has a two-pointer in the run. The Wildcats and Gators played a two-possession game for the remaining 15 minutes. Cross put the Wildcats up 77-75 after a trip to the line with 16 seconds left before the Gators hit the final shot to force OT.

Five more ties and five lead changes in a 12-11 overtime period led to a Gator game-winner with five seconds remaining as the Wildcats final heave at the buzzer fell short.

Inside the box: Cross tied a career-high 35 points and grabbed 18 rebounds to complete his 21st double-double. Barrett poured in 17 points and Donnie Bass Briscoe added 11 to lead a Wildcats offense that shot 45% (32-71) and made 22-of-30 free throws.

Notre Dame was led by four double-digit scorers including Ahmad Harrison who hit the last shot to finish with 29 points and 10 rebounds.
