ERIE, Pa. — In just its second season in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference, Penn College's wrestling team has risen to the top as it dominated Saturday's championships, sending 18 to the podium — eight of them champions — and finishing with 191 points in a five-team field.
174-pound sophomore Travis Green was voted the tournament's Most Outstanding Wrestler in a 3-0 day with a fall, tech fall and an 8-1 decision in the final.
How it happened: Claiming individual titles were Justin Adams (125 pounds, 3-0 record on the day), Kaden Ware (133, 3-0), Noah Hunt (141, 2-0), TJ Martin (149, 2-0), Carter Davis (165, 2-0), Travis Green (174, 3-0), Isaac Cory (184, 2-0) and Nicholai Brotzman (285, 1-0).
Down 5-8 on the scoreboard in the 125-pound final, but with a one-minute riding time point in his back pocket, Adams completed the match-winning takedown with just two seconds left to defeat Penn State Behrend's Zach Dellinger. In a matchup of Region 2 ranked wrestlers facing off in the 133-pound final, seventh-ranked Ware defeated eighth-ranked Elijah Mosheneck (Alfred State), 7-4, courtesy of two takedowns, an escape and a stall point to overturn a head-to-head loss in the 2024 AMCC Championship. Hunt inched closer to the century mark as he defeated Behred's Cole Neil with a third-period fall to collect his 98th career win and second consecutive AMCC crown.
At 165-pounds, Davis used three takedowns and an escape to post his 11-1 major decision victory and start a run of three straight Wildcat champions as Green dismantled Pitt-Bradford's DJ Slovick with an 8-1 decision and Region 2's second-ranked Cory used two takedowns and an escape to defeat Alfred State's Brent Perry who entered the weekend ranked sixth in the region at 197 pounds. 149-pounder TJ Martin and 285-pounder Nicholai Brotzman both received forfeits in their final bouts.
Placing third were Brett Patton (149, 3-1), Gavin Gomes (157, 3-1), Luke Heimbach (125, 3-1), CJ Trimber (133, 3-1) and Cole Shupp (174, 3-1).
Finishing fourth were Isaac McGregor (141, 2-2), Ronan Moynihan (197, 1-2), Cavin Napoletano (157, 2-2), Josh Howard (165, 2-2) and Aiden Osborne (184, 1-2).
