Wildcats Bow Out of UE Playoffs

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Fourth-seeded Penn College women's basketball fought to the final buzzer, but came up short against fifth-seeded Bryn Athyn, 51-47 in the United East quarterfinal round on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats ended their historic 2024-25 season with a 15-11 record, while the Lions advance to the semifinal round with a 21-6 record. 

How it happened: With the score 33-30 in favor of the Wildcats heading into the final quarter, twh two teams fought through three lead changes and two ties as the contest came down to the final seconds of regulation. The Lions pulled ahead with a 3-pointer before Lexi Troup quickly answered and Rachel Teats dropped a jumper for a 37-35 lead with 6:29 to go. Penn College kept the lead and the momentum with a Gigi Parlente layup to lead 43-40 with 2:43 on the clock. Bryn Athyn hit back-to-back threes to take back the lead, 46-43 with 51 seconds left and was able to hold on down the stretch, going 5-of-6 at the line. 

Bryn Athyn got out to a hot start to lead 11-4 after the first quarter before the Wildcats found their form to explode for 21 points in the second frame to take a 25-20 lead at halftime. Penn College maintained a slight lead in the third quarter despite being outscored 10-8 in the frame, the Wildcats always found an answer to lead 33-30 and set up the final quarter drama.

Inside the box: Freshman RaeAnna Andreas led the Wildcat offense with a team-high 12 points on four 3s. Teats, who made her 100th career start gave it her all and produced 11 points, seven rebounds, four steals, three assists and three blocks in her final game in a Wildcat uniform. Troup also finished with 11 points and eight rebounds while Parlante was a board shy of another double-double performance as she finished with 10 points, three assist and two steals.

Alayna Day scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Lions.
