Penn College wrestlers 7 of 12 at Mideast Futures

EWING, N.J. — Penn College wrestlers were seventh in a 12-team field and had four podium with three fourth-place and one sixth-place finish in the Mideast Futures Tournament hosted by The College of New Jersey on Saturday.

How it happened: Ending fourth for the Wildcats were Giovanni DiBiagio at 125 pounds, Blake Dergham at 133 and Aiden Osborne at 184. Josh Howard was sixth at 165.

DiBiagio earned a 5-1 victory in the quarterfinals before dropping his next two bouts to finish 1-2.  Dergham scored two tech falls and won by an 18-5 major decision to reach the semifinal bout. He fell to eventual champion, TCNJ's Colin Menier before getting pinned by Division II Millersville's Cael Rossi in the bronze-medal match.  Osborne pinned his first two opponents of the day to reach the semifinal round before bowing out with two consecutive losses to end 2-2. Howard went 4-2, with a 16-4 major decision, two tech falls and a pin to reach the fifth-place bout where he fell to Derek Giordano of Ursinus.

In all, 11 Wildcats competed.

The field: Host TCNJ led the field with 109 points and was followed by Stevens 92, NYU 82.5, Millersville 77, Wilkes 42.5, Gettysburg 33, Penn College 29, Elizabethtown 28, Ursinus 22.5, Marymount 14, McDaniel 12.5 and Muhlenberg 12.5.

Up next: Penn College competes Saturday and Sunday in the NCAA Division III Region 2 Championship at Lycoming College, 10 a.m.
