WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College fell to Keystone, 81-79, on a buzzer-beater in United East men's hoops action on Wednesday night inside Bardo Gym. The Wildcats dropped to 6-7 UE, 8-14 overall while the Giants moved to 9-4 UE, 11-9.
How it happened: Tied at 79-79 with 4.8 seconds left, Keystone's Daryl Coleman hit a fade-away jumper at the buzzer for the win.
Gavin Barrett had a chance to put the Wildcats ahead at the line on the previous possession, but his free throw attempt rattled around the rim and rebounded by the Giants.Â
Both sides played back-and-fourth for the full 40 minutes as neither team could gain a double-digit lead. Penn College maintained a steady lead in the first half with three-straight baskets made by

Colby Bost and Barrett to give the Wildcats a 26-19 lead with nine minutes left in the first half. After Keystone pulled within three just three minutes later, the Wildcats jumped out to its largest lead of the night following a
Landon Reeder layup and two buckets by
Donnie Bass Briscoe to lead 34-25 with five minutes left as the Wildcats would hold a 43-36 lead at the break.Â
Back-to-back 3s by Keystone to start the second half pulled the Giants within one, but the Wildcats held on the lead until the Giants nailed three to go up 60-59 which sparked an 11-3 run to build its largest lead of the night, 71-62 with 6:25 to play. The Wildcats tracked down the Giants until the final minute when Barrett drove for a tough finish and the 79-78 lead. Keystone converted on the first attempt of a one-and-one to tie the game at 79-79 and played for the final shot.Â
Inside the box: Cross continued to extend his Division III-leading double-double performances with his 18th of the season after scoring 14 points and grabbing 13 rebounds. Barrett poured in a team-high 19 points while adding six assists and five boards.
DJ Smith III (13) and
Donnie Bass Briscoe (11) also finished in double figures for the Wildcats offense.Â
Boston Caldwell scored a game-high 27 points to lead Keystone.
