WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -- Penn College plated six unanswered runs in the eighth to defeat Elmira, 10-6 in nonconference baseball action, Wednesday afternoon. The Wildcats improved to 6-7 and dropped the Soaring Eagles to 5-7 on the year.
How it happened: Staring at a 6-4 deficit with just six outs to work with, the Wildcats put on their rally caps in the eighth inning to take a 10-6 lead.
Shawn Townsend started the inning with a leadoff single,
Jaydon Goebel reached in a hit-by-pitch and
Matt Munoz laid down a bunt single to lad the bases.
Anthony Barbella and
Ty Jenkins both drew RBI walks before
Dallas Griess singled to drive in Munoz. Barbella scored on
Ethan Stahl's sac fly before
Nathan Gustkey and Townsend brought in the inning's final two runs with RBI singles.
Dillon Gallagher shut the door on Elmira in the ninth with three quick outs. Gustkey and Townsend powered the offense as both Wildcats went 3-for-5 at the plate. Gustkey drove in a team-high two RBIs and scored once while Townsend, Goebel and Griess all crossed the plate twice.
Penn College's pitching combined to strikeout 11 Soaring Eagles and scatter eight hits in the win.
McGwire Heverly sat down a team-high five batters in 3.2 innings to start the game.
Parker White added two Ks and was credited with his second victory of the season.
