Wildcats split with Altoona

ALTOONA, Pa. – Penn College split a nonconference doubleheader against Penn State Altoona Monday. The Wildcats improved to 14-3 following a 12-7 setback in game one and an 11-2 victory in the second contest.

In game one,
The Nittany Lions took an 8-0 lead after four in the first, three in the second and one in the fourth. Penn College plated five in the fifth on Shawn Townsend's bases loaded walk, Matt Munoz' single, John Croasdale's fielder's choice, a wild pitch, and an error. After Altoona picked up three more in the bottom of the fifth, Munoz brought in a pair on a double to left in the sixth inning. The Lions added a pair in the bottom of the sixth.

Munoz led the offense with three hits, while Jaydon Goebel finished with two.

In game two,
Penn College scored at least one run in six innings on 11 hits. Anthony Turek smacked a two-run single to left in the first, and Ethan Stahl's sac fly and an error made it 4-2 in the second. Another error, and Brandon Shane's RBI double in the third gave PCT a 6-1 advantage and Kevin Cute made it 7-1 with a two-run double in the fourth. An error in the fifth made it 8-2 before Turek launched a two-run homer in the sixth.

Turek finished 3 for 4, with 4 RBI, while Parker White and Shane finished with a pair of hits. Weston McClain fired one inning and improved to 2-1 after allowing one earned on three hits.

Up next: Penn College returns to action Wednesday, 3 p.m., hosting Saint Elizabeth.
