MORRISTOWN, N.J. -- Penn College baseball exploded for a 28-18 United East Conference victory at Saint ELizabeth on Wednesday afternoon. The Wildcats improved to 10-4 in league games, 17-15 overall. SEU dropped to 66-8 UE, 14-21.
How it happened: The Wildcats plated five runs in the first, two in the second and nine in the third to take a commanding 16-4 lead.
Ethan Stahl led off the game with a single and a pair of walks to
Nathan Gustkey and
Levi Purnell loaded the bases for
Shawn Townsend to single and score Stahl.
Matt Munoz added to the scoreboard with a two-out, two-run double to right field and
Brandon Shane followed with a single to left. Stahl plated the Wildcats fifth run with an infield RBI-single in his second at-bat of the inning.
PCT scored one in the fourth on a Saint Elizabeth error and three runs in the fifth including a solo home run by Gustkey. After The Eagles pulled within two, 20-18 in the bottom of the seventh, the Wildcats plated eight unanswered runs in the eighth and ninth innings to pull away.
Inside the box: Stahl finished with a career-best 6-for-7 at the plate with three RBIs and four runs scored. Gustkey added four hits, four RBIs and four runs scored while launching his third home run of the season.
Shawn Townsend scored a team-high six times on a three-hit afternoon and four RBIs.
Wyatt Hershey collected his second win of the season after two innings of action on the mound.
