WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College took two games from Saint Elizabeth in the United East second round Friday to advance to next week's final four. The Wildcats won game one, 4-0, before
Mackenzi Tice fired a six-inning no-hitter in an 8-0 victory in game two as PCT improved to 26-13.
The double-elimination final four will be hosted by top-seeded Penn State Berks May 9-10. Penn College's opponent is still to be determined.
In game one,
Penn College took an early 1-0 lead when
Grace Lorson singled in
Mackenzie Weaver in the first inning.
Astyn Calaman made it 2-0 in the fourth when her ground out plated
Payton Crawford, before the Wildcats added some insurance in the fifth on an error and an RBI by Crawford.
Weaver, Crawford,
Ryleigh Rinker, and
Harley Kunes all picked up a pair of hits to lead the offense. Weaver improved to 15-6 after a complete-game three-hit shutout, with eight strikeouts, and four walks.
In game two,
Tice set the tone for her gem by striking out the first five batters she faced and
Lexi Snyder's single in the first, and two errors in the second gave the Wildcats a 3-0 lead. PCT added four in the fifth when Crawford smacked a two-run single and
Sofia LaSpina belted a two-run homer to left to make it 7-0. Crawford ended the game with a walk-off double to left in the sixth.
Lorson and Crawford both finished with three hits to pace Penn College's offense while Tice improved to 11-4, with 10 strikeouts and two walks.
