Mussina Finishes 49th at NCAA Championship

PENFIELD, N.Y. — Penn College senior Peyton Mussina shot 302 over four days and finished tied for 49th as play in the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship concluded Friday afternoon on a rain-soaked Midvale Country Club course.

Mussina was tied for fourth place at 145 after Wednesday's second round and made the cut for the second straight season. But after several days of rain, wind and cool temperatures, and more of the same in the forecast, officials attempted to complete play with 36 holes on Thursday. Through 18 holes Thursday, Mussina was 7-over-par after shooting a 79. He completed 12 holes in the fourth round, going another 4-over-par, when play was suspended due to darkness. Action resumed Friday at noon, and Mussina completed the final six holes and finished 2-over for a 78.

Edward Coffren of Lynchburg recorded a 280 to claim medalist honors by one stroke over Will Karkoc of Bethel, Minnesota, and two strokes over Kevin MU of Emory. In team competition, Methodist successfully defended its crown with a 1,175 and Illinois Wesleyan was second at 1,180.
