Wildcats Battle Harrisburg in UEC Finals Rematch

MIDDLETOWN, Pa. — Penn College dropped a 2-1 final score to Penn State Harrisburg in a United East Conference men's soccer finals rematch Thursday evening. The Wildcats held a 9-7 advantage in shots and a 5-3 edge in shots on goal, but could not overcome a two-goal halftime deficit. PCT dropped to 6-4-3 overall and 3-1 in conference play. The Nittany Lions are 4-6-2 overall and 3-0-1 in conference play.

How it happened: The Wildcats fell behind in the first half as the Nittany Lions scored at 1:25 and again at 17:51 to build a 2-0 lead. Between those goals, Elliott Rattiram and Diego Diaz recorded shots and Diaz took two corner kicks, but PCT could not finish on their set-piece chances. The Wildcats put back-to-back attempts on frame in the 25th minute through Scott Goldfeder and Andrew Mathes, but were both turned away by the Harrisburg keeper, and went into halftime trailing 2-0.

Goldfeder finally got through to put the Wildcats on the board in the 64th minute off of assists from Will Watson and Logan Berfield, to pull the Wildcats within 2-1 in the second half. Penn State Harrisburg held off the Wildcats in the final 25 minutes for the 2-1 final.

Inside the box: Goldfeder scored his fourth goal of the season while Beachy was credited with his first assist and Berfield notched his second of the season. Justin Crismale finished with one save in goal.

Addis Tafese and Josiah Shamberger led Penn State Harrisburg with one goal each while Jimmy Shensky saved four Penn College shots.

Up next: PCT visits Keystone College on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 1 p.m.
