SCHUYLKILL HAVEN, Pa. — Penn College dropped a nonconference volleyball match to Penn State Schuylkill, 3-0, on Thursday evening. The Wildcats pushed closest in the third set, falling 23-25 after set losses of 15-25 and 18-25. The Wildcats are 0-20 overall. Penn State Schuylkill improved to 15-9.
How it happened: The Wildcats traded points through the opening portion of the first set, getting early kills from
Lilly Stockum,
Mya Gilliam and
Sam Prisco and moving in front 6-4 on a Lions attack error. Penn State Schuylkill answered from a 10-9 score with four straight points, and after Stockum's kill made it 14-10, the home team added the next four points to widen the gap. PCT later got a Stockum service ace and a
Sara Seyfert kill, but Penn State Schuylkill closed out the set, 25-15.
The Wildcats stayed close early in the second set, but the Lions scored four straight points to move from 10-7 to 14-7 and later stretched the margin.
Callie Riddle helped PCT answer late with a kill and back-to-back service aces, pulling the visitors to 24-18. Penn State Schuylkill closed the set on the next point, 25-18.
In the third, PCT held a 23-19 lead after Prisco's kill from
Taryn Smith, but Penn State Schuylkill scored the final six points to take the set, 25-23, and the match.
Inside the box: Stockum led the Wildcats with seven kills and 9.5 points, adding two service aces. Riddle collected a team-high 11 digs and added two aces. Seyfert had two kills and shared the team lead with nine assists. Smith also handed out nine assists and added a service ace.
Zoë Roman led Penn State Schuylkill with 12 kills and added five digs. Brooklynn Sheridan recorded 34 assists and two service aces. Lyla Kershner finished with 15 digs, one ace and a kill.
