Wildcats fall at Gallaudet in season finale
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Penn College's men's basketball team closed out its season with a 73-70 United East loss at Gallaudet University on Saturday. The Wildcats finish 3-10 in the conference and 4-20 overall. Gallaudet is 2-11 in the UE and 3-18 overall.
How it happened: After trailing 30-28 at the half, Penn College took its first lead at 44-43 in the second half on a
Jay Henry layup with 13:29 left. After ties at 51, 55 and 57, the Wildcats moved out in front 59-57 with 5:42 remaining before being outscored 16-11 the rest of the way.
Down 66-61 with two minutes to go,
Neyshawn Mabry scored the Wildcats' final nine points and brought his team back to within one at 71-70 with 10 seconds showing. A 3-point attempt by Wildcat
Owen Newcomer that would have forced overtime was just off the mark with three seconds left, and a Gallaudet player grabbed the rebound to run out the clock.
Inside the box: Newcomer finished with 19 points, and
Landon Reeder scored 12.
Octavio Alexander led Penn College with eight rebounds. Brandon Washington led Gallaudet with 19 points.
