WASHINGTON, D.C.—Penn College wrapped up the regular season with a 61-51 win over Gallaudet in a United East women's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats locked up the No. 2 seed in next week's United East playoffs and improved to 11-2 UE, 19-6 overall.
PCT's 19 overall regular season victories is a program record.
How it happened: Trailing 14-9 after the first quarter, Penn College opened the second period with a 9-4 run to take a 19-18 advantage on
Lexi Troup's three with 7:36 on the clock. Troup later netted five-straight points to spark a 9-0 spurt, and a 28-20 PCT advantage, before the Bison rallied with a late run to cut Penn College's lead to one, 30-29, at the break.
The third quarter was a one-possession advantage by both teams as both squads traded the lead the majority of the stanza. Gallaudet took its final lead, 46-45, with 7:46 left in the game before the Wildcats exploded for a 14-2 run, spanning nearly six minutes, to put the game out of reach.
Inside the box:
Gigi Parlante scored a team-high 17 points for Penn College and grabbed eight boards. Troup finished with 13 points, while
RaeAnna Andreas and
Kayla Herzer both added 10 points each. Herzer also grabbed a team-best 10 rebounds.
Up next: The Wildcats received a first-round bye and will host the winner of No. 7 Lancaster Bible/No. 10 Gallaudet Saturday at 1 p.m.
