LANCASTER, Pa. — Five first-place finishes, four seconds and one third, and six archers ranked nationally in the top 25 of their respective disciplines. Penn College archers had a great showing in the USA Archery Indoor Championships that wrapped Feb. 15, with results recently released.
How it happened: Taking gold were Cannon Youndt in the men's compound (1,161 points), Josiah Hinojos in men's fixed pins (1,172), Liz Gruodis in women's barebow (767), Cooper Goldring in men's recurve (1,063), and Roman Moss in men's barebow (838). Earning silver were Eli Bartron in men's compound (1,157), Haylee Parker in women's compound (1,028), Hailey Penner in women's fixed pins (893), and Kaden Stokes in men's recurve (877). Claiming bronze was Casey Keiter in men's fixed pins (1,140).
As a result of those finishes, in the national rankings, Hinojos is 14th, Youndt is 18th, and Bartron and Goldring are 20th, Moss is 22nd, and Keiter is 25th.
Other Wildcats placing in the top 10 at Lancaster were: Men's compound — Salvador Elam, fourth (1,135); Emery Gunsallus, fifth (1,135); Collin Ankney, sixth (1,134); Colby Dell, seventh (1,120). Men's fixed pins — Anthony Olenchak, fifth (1,117); Rylan Tillotson, seventh (1,088); Dante Cruz, 10th (1,068).
Coach speak: "The change of venue proved to be a challenge for everyone; scores were lower than expected. Our rankings are what we expected. We believe we can carry this momentum into the outdoor season and own the East this year. We definitely have the talent, coach Dustin Bartron said.
All-Americans, which combine indoor and outdoor national scores, will be determined after the season-ending outdoor nationals in May.
