Six Penn College archers earn all-region honors

HARRISONBURG, Va. — Six Penn College archers were named to the All-East Region team as a result of their showing that produced two individual golds, two silver, one bronze and one fourth-place finish, along with two firsts, one second and a fifth in team events in last weekend's USA Archery East Region Championships at James Madison University.

How it happened: Taking individual gold were Roman Moss in the men's barebow event and Josiah Hinojos in the men's fixed pins. Claiming silver were Colby Dell in the men's compound and Liz Gruodis in the women's barebow. Bronze went to Tayton Roys in men's fixed pins, and fourth was awarded to Anthony Olenchak, also in men's fixed pins.

In team competition, Dell, Cannon Youndt and Eli Bartron won in men's compound, as did Hinojos, Olenchak and Roys in men's fixed pins. Gruodis and Roman Moss placed second in mixed barebow, and Bartron and Haylee Parker were fifth in the mixed compound.

Named to the All-East Region team were Hinojos, Moss, Bartron, Olenchak, Youndt and Cooper Goldring, who shot in the men's recurve. Hinojos was also on the All-East squad a year ago.

Coach speak: It was a "great weekend. I was very pleased overall. We're looking to carry the momentum to nationals," Dustin Bartron said.

Up Next: USA Archery Target Nationals at East Lansing, Mich., May 14-17.
