Wildcats Baseball Finishes Spring Break With a Win

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. -- Penn College baseball completed their spring break week with an 8-3 victory over Dean College in the second game of a doubleheader on Thursday. The Wildcats also earned victories over Immaculata and Otterbein during the week to finish 3-4. Penn College is now 4-5 on the season and are set to play four more nonconference games in the upcoming week before jumping into United East action against No. 27 Keystone.

--Sunday, March 8 --
W, 10-2 vs. Immaculata
After a rain delay washed out the first game of a scheduled doubleheader against Immaculata Sunday night, the Wildcats earned a 10-2 victory in game 2. The Wildcats scored a run in each of the first three innings to take a 3-0 lead. After Immaculata scored in the fourth and fifth inning to make the score, 3-2, the Wildcats scored twice in the bottom of the fifth and tacked on four more runs in the sixth inning. A Munoz RBI double in the eighth plated the final run of the night.

Mason Balfanz racked up six Ks in the four-inning start before Alexander pitched one inning in relief to earn the win. Griess, Munoz and Croasdale all earned three hits to lead the offense. Griess scored three runs while Shawn Townsend, Munoz and Hinnershitz all collected three RBIs in the win.

-- Monday, March 9 --
W, 10-5 vs. Otterbein
The Wildcats pounded out double-digit runs for the third-straight game to defeat Otterbein, 10-5, in their lone action on Monday. Shawn Townsend and Matt Munoz collect three hits each. Levi Purnell, Logan Hinnershitz and John Corasdale each recorded two hits. Townsend scored twice while Munoz drove in three RBIs and Purnell cleaned up with two RBIs. PCT's pitchers combined for seven Ks as Weston McClain picked up his first win of the season after 3.1 innings with 3 Ks and one hit allowed.

--Tuesday, March 10 --
L, 5-2 vs. La Roche
In game one, La Roche broke through a scoreless game with one run in each of the sixth and seventh innings. Penn College responded with a two-run single by Hinnershitz to tie the game in the bottom of the seventh before the Redhawks plated three runs in the ninth. Goebel was the lone Wildcat to record a pair of hits in the game while six others recorded a hit. Griffin Vollman limited the Redhawk bats to just three hits through his 5.0 inning start.

L, 6-2 vs. La Roche
In game two, the Wildcats were held to just five hits. La Roche scored in the second before PCT took a brief lead in the top of the fourth on an RBI double from Munoz and a Jenkins RBI single. The Redhawks scored three in the bottom half of the frame and two in the fifth.

-- Wednesday, March 11 --
L, 8-4 vs. Bridgewater State
Bridgewater struck first with a solo home run in the top of the first inning before the Wildcats answered with a Munoz RBI single to score Jaiden Augustine. PCT pulled ahead in the second when Croasdale scored on an Augustine grounder but a four-run seventh inning from the Bears was enough of a lead despite the Wildcats getting on the board with two runs in the eighth. Munoz continued his hot week with three hits including a double and two RBIs. Bailey Grim also collected a pair of hits in the lineup. Dallas Alexander put in 6.1 innings of work on the mound with three strikeouts.

-- Thursday, March 12 --
L, 8-7 vs. Dean
Penn College struck first with a three-run first inning as Augustine, Griess and Townsend all started the game with singles. Townsend drove in Augustine and Griess with his single to center field and later scored on a Munoz grounder. The Wildcats held the Bulldogs off the board until they did all their damage in the fourth inning.
