Wildcats Roll Past Bison

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- Penn College softball defeated Gallaudet to claim its fourth consecutive United East Conference softball sweep and closed out its regular season on an eight-game win streak. The Wildcats took game one, 17-7 in five innings before earning a 16-5 victory in six innings of game two. PCT finished 14-2 in the league, 29-5 overall. The Bison dropped to 0-15, 6-23.

In game one, 
Taylor Brown and Carissa Lusk got the Wildcats off to a hot start with a two-run double and a two-run single in the top of the first inning to take a quick 4-0 lead. After Gallaudet took a 6-4 lead in the second inning, the Wildcats plated eight runs in the fourth and five more in the fifth.

Brown finished the game with a team-high four RBIs while going 3-for-4. Ryleigh Rinker and Lusk also posted three-hit games. Lusk had three RBIs while Payton Crawford, Brown, and Arista Fine all crossed the plate a team-high three times.  Laney Wilson was credited with the win in the circle, striking out two in a complete-game effort.

In game two,
Sam Shaw was the first Wildcat to cross the plate on a passed ball in the second inning. Brown smacked a two-run triple and Shaw hit an RBI single in the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. Crawford raced around the bases to score a two-run inside-the-park homer to push the Wildcat lead to 7-3 in the fourth before the 'Cats induced the run-rule with an eight-run sixth inning.

Wilson picked up her second complete-game victory of the afternoon. Rinker and Sofia Mileto led the Wildcats with three hits while Crawford finished with four RBIs and two runs scored.

Up next: Penn College prepares for the United East Conference playoffs next Saturday with a time and place to be determined.
