ALLIANCE, Ohio -- Penn College went 1-1 on the second day of the NCAA Softball Regional Championship Tournament at Mount Union, falling one game shy of reaching the region championship game. The Wildcats escaped elimination in the first game with a 4-0 shutout over Lebanon Valley before falling to tournament host and #11 Mount Union, 13-2, in the second elimination game Friday afternoon. The Wildcats finished the 2026 season with a program-best 34-9 record.
Penn College's victory against Lebanon Valley reversed a 5-1 loss which ended the Wildcats' season in the Cleveland Regional last season and marked the first team victory in an NCAA Tournament in school history.Â

Tice pitched a four hit shutout and rang up 10 batters to keep the Wildcats alive in the first elimination game. The Wildcats scored early, once again in the first inning with an RBI double from
Payton Crawford and an RBi single off the bat of
Astyn Calaman for a quick 2-0 lead.Â
Arista Fine added to the lead with an RBI single to score
Taylor Brown from third for a 3-0 lead. Brown finished off eht game's scoring with a no-doubter solo home run to lead off the fifth inning.
Brown finished 1-for-3 with a walk and two runs scored while
Sofia Mileto finished the game 4-for-4 with three singles, a double and a run scored. Calaman and Fine both finished 2-for-3 for the Wildcats. Tice surpassed 200 strikeouts on the season to earn her 23rd win in the circle.Â

After a scoreless two innings, the Wildcats scratched a run on the board with a pair of base hits from Detweiler and Crawford and back-to-back walks from Brown and Calaman to lead 1-0, but an 11-run response from the Purple Raiders in the bottom of the inning was too much for the Wildcats to overtake.
Mount Union tacked one two more in the fourth inning for a 13-1 lead and triggering the run rule.
Brown would not let her team go down quietly with her second solo home run of the day put another run on the board for the Wildcats before the Purple Raiders turned a double play to end the game.Â
Brown collected two of the Wildcats seven hits at the plate. Tice's magic arm ran out of juice as she gave up 10 hits in the loss.
