ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. -- Second-seeded Penn College fell, 16-14 to top-seeded St. Mary's in the United East Men's Lacrosse Championship game on Saturday afternoon. The Wildcats capped their season with a 14-5 record and a runner-up finish for the third consecutive season as they closed the gap in goal differential between the two sides.
How it happened:Â The Wildcats took an early 3-1 lead midway through the first period with a three goal run.
Owen Kupsey scored twice and
Aidan McFalls added a man-up goal.
St. Mary's closed the period with a 5-1 advantage to lead 6-4 and scored three more goals in the second to lead 9-5 at the break.Â
The Wildcats had two more pushes in the second half with a four-goal run in the third to cut the deficit to 10-9 and another three-goal run in the fourth pulled the team ahead, 14-13 with 9:23 to go, before the Seahawks scored the final three goals of the championship.
Inside the box: McFalls led the offense with five goals and an assist while
AJ Dotson scored two goals and dished out four assists for a team-high six points.
Owen Kupsey also notched a hat-trick.
Austin Callahan forced two turnovers while
Ryan Twist posted 18 saves in net.
