ROCHESTER, N.Y. — Penn College women's volleyball closed out its visit at the Rochester University Invitational on Saturday, suffering losses to both Clarkson and Smith, with final match scores of 3-0 in each contest. Against the Golden Knights, the set scores were 8-25, 9-25, and 12-25, while the Wildcats fell to the Bears, 15-25, 18-25, and 20-25. The Wildcats fell to 0-10 overall, while Clarkson improved to 5-2 and Smith moved to 8-0.
Lilly Stockum was named to the All-Tournament Team after compiling 16 kills, two aces and two block assists across four matches.
In the match against Clarkson, the Wildcats struggled to find their rhythm, with Clarkson opening the first set with four straight points, including three service aces from Chase Chudoba. Penn College managed some offensive highlights with kills from Stockum,
Samantha Prisco, and
Peyton Maass, along with an ace from
Eleana Falkner, but Clarkson closed the set on an 8-0 run.
The second set saw a pivotal 10-point run by Clarkson on Olivia Baxter's serve, extending their lead to 15-3. Although the Wildcats responded with kills from
Mya Gilliam and
Kendall Shade, Clarkson maintained their dominance to take the set 25-9.
In the third set, a seven-point run by Clarkson put the Wildcats in an early hole at 8-1.
Avani Rainier managed three kills for Penn College in this set, but Clarkson sealed the match with a final set score of 25-12.
Against Smith, the Wildcats began the first set trailing 8-3 but rallied to close the gap to 12-11 with contributions from
Peyton Maass and
Taryn Smith. However, Smith responded decisively, finishing the set at 25-15.
The second set was competitive, with Penn College narrowing a 14-9 deficit to 14-12 thanks to a block from
Avani Rainier and two Smith attack errors.
Lilly Stockum's kill brought the score to 15-13, but Smith countered with five consecutive points to secure the set 25-18.
In the third set, the Wildcats took an early 4-0 lead with kills and blocks from Maass and
Kendall Shade, but Smith quickly leveled the score at 11-11 and pulled away to win the set 25-20.
Avani Rainier led the Wildcats with three kills on five attacks, hitting .600.
Peyton Maass collected a team-high four digs, adding two kills and two assists, while
Taryn Smith contributed four assists and two digs.
Lilly Stockum recorded three kills and one dig.
In the match against Smith, Maass stood out with six kills, one service ace, four digs, and two block assists, leading the Wildcats. Rainier finished with five kills on a .267 hitting percentage and one solo block.
Taryn Smith recorded a team-high nine assists and served four aces, while
Callie Riddle led with 11 digs.
