WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — Penn College fell to Penn St.-Altoona, 3-0, in a nonconference women's volleyball match Wednesday evening, dropping set scores of 21-25, 13-25 and 15-25. The Wildcats finished with 19 kills, while Penn St.-Altoona totaled 30 kills and hit .222. PCT dropped to 0-2 overall, the Lions improved to 1-0.
How it happened: The Wildcats erased a 14-11 deficit in the first set and moved ahead 18-15, with
Mya Gilliam serving four straight points that included an ace and a block by
Kendall Shade and
Lilly Stockum. Penn St.-Altoona answered after PCT held a 20-18 lead, closing the set with the final three points for a 25-21 finish.
In the second set, PCT spent the set trying to recover from a 7-0 opening by Penn St.-Altoona and could not close the gap in a 25-13 loss.
Avani Rainier ended the opening run with a kill from
Taryn Smith, and the Wildcats later added kills from Stockum,
Samantha Prisco and Gilliam, with Shade contributing a late block as the team reached 23-12 before Penn St.-Altoona closed the set.
After an early 3-0 deficit in the third set, the Wildcats tied it at 3-3 on a
Peyton Maass kill and a block by Gilliam and Maass. Penn St.-Altoona answered by pushing the score to 12-5, while PCT's later scoring included kills from Maass, Prisco and Stockum plus a Smith ace. Penn St.-Altoona took the set 25-15.
Inside the box: Maass finished with five kills, five digs and a block assist. Stockum matched the team high with five kills and added a block assist. Smith recorded 10 assists, five digs and a service ace.
Eleana Falkner collected a team-high eight digs.
Kyla Campbell hit 1.000 with five kills on five attacks and added three block assists. Lia Simanski finished with a team-high 7.5 points, adding four kills, two aces, six digs and three block assists. Julia Emel recorded 15 assists and three service aces. Hannah Swank posted five kills, 10 digs and one block assist.
