READING, Pa. — Penn College defeated Penn State Berks, 4-2, in United East Conference women's soccer action on Tuesday. The Wildcats scored three times in the first half and finished with a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal. The Wildcats improved to 6-2-1 overall and 2-0-0 UEC. Penn State Berks is 4-5-1, 1-1-0 UEC.
The victory marked Penn College's first-ever win against Penn State Berks, as they were previously 0-11-1 — dating back to the 2014 season — heading into the game.
How it happened: Goals were scored early and often as
Camryn Lobb scored just 2:40 into the game and Penn State Berks answered in the fourth minute.
Megan Kurian retaliated in the eighth minute and netted a brace in the 31st minute to give the Wildcats a 3-1 lead into halftime.
Avery Puderbach assisted on Lobb's touch and
Lily Persing connected both times to Kurian.
Persing scored at 52:06 to extend the Wildcats' lead to 4-1 before the Nittany Lions cut the margin to 4-2 in the 69th minute. Penn College tried two more shots including a penalty kick try from
Gianna Gamble that was turned away while Harley Olphant and the Wildcat defense stuffed two Penn State Berks attempts to ride out the 4-2 victory.
Inside the box: Kurian scored twice and put all three of her shots on frame. Persing tallied a goal and two assists for four points while Lobb scored the Wildcats' first goal and finished with three shots. Puderbach added an assist and Oliphant finished with one save to earn her fifth victory in net.
Maci Laster and Stephanie Morales scored for the Nittany Lions while Riley Fisher finished with three saves in goal.
