MORRISTOWN, N.J. – Penn College surrendered a four-point halftime lead in a 67-58 setback to College of Saint Elizabeth in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats fell to 8-5 NEAC, 9-8 overall, while the Eagles improved to 6-5, 9-8.
Jamie Steer scored a team-high 14 points for Penn College and grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds.
Hannah Schoenly finished with 12 points and nine rebounds,
Anna-Marie Raybuck added 10 points with nine boards and
Charese Bova pumped in nine points with 11 rebounds.
Danesha Triplett scored a game-high 17 points for CSE.
In a closely contested first half, which saw six ties in the opening 13 minutes, the Wildcats gained separation with a 7-0 scoring run – on three points from Schoenly and two each by
Alicia Ross and Bova – to take a 24-17 lead with 9:01 left in the first. The Eagles rallied to even the score again, 26-26, with 1:11 on the clock before buckets by
Danielle Mowery and Schoenly in the final 40 seconds gave the Wildcats a 30-26 halftime lead.
The Eagles opened the second half with a 6-2 run to even the game again, 32-32, before netting the next seven straight points and taking a 39-32 lead with 16:51 left in the game. Penn College got as close as three, 46-43, after a Ross layup at 9:21 but that was as close as the Wildcats would get. CSE led by as many as 13 the remainder of the game.
