Mustangs Run Past Wildcats



WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Morrisville handed Penn College an 84-68 setback in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Mustangs remained on top of the North Division in the NEAC and improved to 10-2 NEAC, 14-5 overall. The Wildcats fell to 8-6, 9-9.

Alicia Ross pumped in a game-high 26 points for Penn College. Ross shot 8 of 13 from the field, including 6 of 11 from behind the arc. Jamie Steer finished with 21 points and Charese Bova recorded 15 rebounds for Penn College.

Jordan Anderson scored a team-high 20 points for Morrisville.

The Mustangs used a trio of threes to jump out to a 15-2 lead in the opening three minutes of the game. Morrisville held on to a 13-point advantage after an Anderson layup at 15:05 to make it 19-6. Penn College responded with an 11-1 run, spanning just two minutes, to pull within three, 20-17, with 13:23 left in the first half. Ross netted six in the run, Hannah Schoenly drained a three and Anna-Marie Raybuck scored two. Morrisville answered with an 11-4 run to lead 34-21 with 8:51 on the clock, before leading by as many as 15, 46-31, with just under two minutes before the break. The Mustangs led 48-38 at halftime.

Penn College pulled within five, 49-44, after a Steer layup with 17:37 left in the game. The Mustangs rebuilt their lead to 11, 55-44, at 15:39 before Ross scored five of the next six points to get the Wildcats as close five, 55-50, with 13:50 left in the second. Morrisville quickly rebuilt their lead and led by as many as 20 the remainder of the second half.
 
Penn College returns to action Sunday, 12 p.m., hosting Cazenovia.
