WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. -
Hanna Williams netted a pair of scores to help Penn College knock off Wells College 3-1 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's soccer match Sunday. The Wildcats topped their win total from last season and improved to 6-6-2 overall, 6-1-1 NEAC, while the Express fell to 4-10, 3-4.
Angela Maniscalco gave Penn College a 1-0 lead in the 35
th minute after collecting a pass from
Valerie Kubalak. The Wildcats turned away a pair of Wells shots on goal in the opening four minutes of the contest before the Express survived a five-shot onslaught by Penn College in a four minute span beginning in the 17
th minute.
Penn College sent four balls towards the net in the opening 10 minutes of the second half but all missed the target. The Wildcats made it 2-0 when
Robyn Beddow settled the ball on the right side of the goal and sent a pass to Williams, who one-timed the shot to the back of the net in the 58
th minute. Williams made it 3-0 four minutes later when she deposited a pass from
Carley DeVore in the 62
nd minute.
Wells scored its lone score in the 77
th minute when Heather Hiltbrand boomed a 30-yard direct kick off the goalie's hands.
Hailey Heistand stopped seven shots in goal for Penn College, while Quinn Doubet stopped three balls for Wells.
Penn College held a 15-11 edge in shots, while the Express led in corners, 10-2.
The Wildcats return to action Thursday, 4 p.m., at Summitt University.
