ABINGTON, Pa. - Penn State Abington netted two unanswered goals en route to a 2-1 win over Penn College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's soccer match Saturday. The Wildcats finished the regular season at 7-3-2 NEAC, 8-8-3 overall, and will be the No. 6 seed in next week's NEAC playoffs. Abington, which locked in the No. 2 seed, finished at 11-1, 13-4.
The Wildcats will play the No. 3 seed - likely SUNY Poly - at a date a time to be determined.
Robyn Beddow scored her team-leading ninth goal of the season when she belted in a ball that deflected off a defender's head, to give Penn College a 1-0 lead in the 13
th minute. The Lions answered nine minutes later when Emily Kennedy scored unassisted to even the match at 1-1.
Kennedy knocked in the game-winner in the 78
th minute after receiving a cross from Mallory Mugnier, and depositing the ball to the right post. Penn College was held without a shot on goal in the second frame.
Colleen Bowes (4 saves) and
Hailey Heistand (3) combined for seven saves for the Wildcats, while Samantha Friend and Emily Polcino combined for two stops for Abington.
Abington outshot Penn College 19-6 and held a slight 5-4 edge in corner kicks.
