WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - A pair of forfeits proved to be the difference as Penn College dropped a 30-22 decision to Alfred State in non-conference wrestling match Tuesday. The Wildcats dropped to 1-2, while the Pioneers improved to 1-1.
Alfred State jumped out to a 12-0 lead after a forfeit at 125 and a pin at 133.
Ronnie Smith put Penn College on the board with an exciting 13-11 overtime decision over Austin Parker at 141. Smith secured his victory with a takedown 30 seconds into the first overtime.
Mason Replogle improved to 6-2 when he decked Joseph Moscato in 1:06 at 149 and pulled Penn College within three, 12-9. The Pioneers gained a little separation with a pin at 157 to lead 18-9 before
Tanner Leid's fall at 165 made it 18-15.
Alfred State received a forfeit at 174 to lead 24-15, before
Daniel Frankenfield's 12-3 major decision at 184 made it 24-19.
Connor Route made it a two-point match, 24-22, after his 11-4 decision at 197 before the Pioneers closed the meet with a fall at heavyweight.
