WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College opened the season with a 69-50 setback to Lycoming College in a non-conference women's basketball game Saturday. The Warriors improved to 3-0, while the Wildcats fell to 0-1.
Jamie Steer led the Wildcats with 14 points and 13 rebounds, while
Alicia Ross posted 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Both
Hannah Schoenly and
Ebani Lewis pulled down 10 rebounds and
Danielle Mowery finished with nine points.
Jenn Grove led Lycoming with 11 points and 13 rebound.
Lycoming jumped out to a 12-2 run in the game's first six minutes but Penn College responded with a 10-2 run of its own – eight points came from Ross -- to close the gap to 14-12 heading into the second quarter. The Warriors outscored the Wildcats 15-3 in the second quarter to lead 29-15 at halftime.
Penn College pulled within 12 once in the second half, but couldn't get any closer.
Penn College returns to action Dec. 3, 6 p.m., hosting Elmira College.
