Eagles Soar Over Wildcats

WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Elmira College handed Penn College an 82-47 setback in a non-conference women's basketball game Thursday. The Eagles improved to 2-4, while the Wildcats fell to 0-2.
 
Jamie Steer paced Penn College with 16 points and seven rebounds, while Danielle Mowery finished with eight points.
 
Elmira saw three players reach double figures, led by Danielle Cleary's game-high 20 points.
 
The Eagles opened the game with a 10-5 lead four minutes into the game before Penn College responded with a 7-2 run to even the game at 12-12 on Steer's traditional three-point play. Steer had five points in the run for the Wildcats and Alicia Ross scored two.
 
The Wildcats evened the game three more times in the first quarter with the final deadlock coming after Mowery hit the front end of a one-one to tie the game, 18-18, with 1:11 left. Elmira led 22-18 after the first quarter.
 
Elmira led by as many as 14 points in the second quarter and led 36-24 at halftime.
 
The Eagles took a 32 point lead, 64-32, at the end of the third and their lead never dipped below 30 the remainder of the contest.
 
Elmira earned 32 second chance points and netted 18 points off of turnovers.
 
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 3 p.m., hosting Wilson College in North Eastern Athletic Conference game.
