Wildcats Drop Crosstown Challenge Contest to Lycoming


WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College battled in the first half, before dropping a 90-72 decision to Lycoming College in the final game of the Crosstown Challenge in a non-conference men's basketball game Sunday. The Warriors improved to 7-2, while the Wildcats dropped to 2-6.

Marquis Delgado led Penn College with a game-high 19 points, on 5 of 10 shooting, dished out five assists and recorded six steals. Kevin Laurence-El notched his third double-double of the season with 14 points and 11 rebounds, and Thomas Ross finished with 12 points and eight boards for the Wildcats.

David Johnson and Calvin Chandler each finished with 13 points for Lycoming, and Roger Wilson ended with 10.

Penn College opened the game with an 8-0 lead behind five points from Ross and a three-ball by Deaundra McCants. Lycoming answered with a 12-2 scoring run to lead 12-10 at 14:10 before the Wildcats eventually took their final lead, 15-13, with 11:57 left before halftime. After the Warriors took a 24-18 lead with 9:32 remaining in the opener, Penn College rallied to even the game three times in the ensuing three minutes.

Bryce Lonsway connected from downtown to make it 24-24 at 5:56. Chris Johnson connected on the front end of a pair of free throws 30 seconds later to deadlock the game at 25-25, and Joseph Mangiero knotted the contest at 27-27 on a layup at 4:33. Lycoming eventually led 37-33 at halftime.

It was all Warriors in the second half as Lycoming led by double digits the majority of the period.

Penn College returns to action Jan. 5, 5 p.m., hosting Penn State Berks.
