WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Penn College rallied from a 13 point halftime deficit to pick up its first win of the season with a 75-71 win over Wilson College in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Saturday. The Wildcats improved to 1-4 overall, 1-0 NEAC, while the Phoenix fell to 1-5, 0-1.
Kevin Laurence-El and
Thomas Ross both finished with double-doubles for the Wildcats, it was Laurence-El's second double-double of the season and Ross' third. Laurence-El netted 25 points and pulled down 12 rebounds, and Ross scored 15 and grabbed 12 boards.
Marquis Delgado finished with 14 points for Penn College.
Marquis Nelson led Wilson with 14 points.
Trailing 47-34 early in the second half, Penn College used a 13-0 run to even the game at 47-47 on Ross' dunk with 14:39 left in the game. Ross and Delgado paced the run with four points each for Penn College. The Phoenix rallied to take a 58-52 lead with 9:20 remaining in the game but Penn College answered with six straight to knot the score again, 58-58, on a pair of
Laquinn Thompson free throws with 8:07 on the clock.
Wilson took its final lead, 69-64, with 3:39 remaining before the Wildcats answered with nine consecutive points to lead 73-69 after
Joseph Mangiero's inbound steal - after a pair of Ross free throws -- and ensuing free throw with 11 seconds left in the game.
After Penn College took a 13-12 lead with 13:15 left in the first half, Wilson used an 18-7 scoring run to go ahead 31-19 with 6:21 left before the break and led 44-31 at halftime.
Penn College scored 18 points off of turnovers and netted 12 second chance points.
The Wildcats return to action Sunday, 12 p.m., hosting Gallaudet.
