WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. - Penn College won its second straight game with a 71-64 win over Gallaudet in a North Eastern Athletic Conference men's basketball game Sunday. The Wildcats improved to 2-4 overall, 2-0 NEAC, while the Bison fell to 0-4, 0-1.
Kevin Laurence-El finished with a game-high 27 points for Penn College, on 10 of 17 shooting.
Thomas Ross netted 21 points and grabbed a team-best seven rebounds.
Four players reached double figures for the Bison, led by Trey Gordon's 17.
Both teams stayed within a bucket of each other in the opening nine minutes of the game before Penn College took a five point lead, 20-15, after threes from Ross and
Chris Johnson. Gallaudet rallied to even the contest, 22-22, with 7:14 left. Ross' jumper at 4:51 made it 24-24, which sparked a 9-3 run for Penn College and a 33-27 lead on a
Laquinn Thompson layup with 1:02 left in the first. The Wildcats led 33-29 at the break.
Penn College took its largest lead, 40-33, on a Ross trey with 17:33 remaining in the game before the Bison eventually pulled within two, 45-43, with 14:43 on the clock and evened the game at 55-55 at 8:02. The teams traded small lead changes three times over the next six minutes before a pair of Laurence-El free throws gave the Wildcats a 63-62 lead with 2:34 left in the game. Laurence-El netted five straight points in a 20 second span to give PCT a 68-62 advantage with 39 seconds left in the contest.
Penn College returns to action Friday, 7 p.m., hosting Gordon in the first game of the Crosstown Challenge.
