KEUKA, N.Y. – Penn College rallied after an early deficit and built a double-digit second half lead, before holding off a late run to hold off Keuka 48-44 in a North Eastern Athletic Conference women's basketball game Sunday. The Wildcats improved to 11-11 overall, 10-7 NEAC, while the Wolfpack dropped to 8-12, 7-8.
Alicia Ross scored a game-high 16 points for Penn College and dished out a game-best six assists.
Danielle Mowery finished with 10 points for the Wildcats,
Jamie Steer added eight points and 11 rebounds and
Charese Bova netted eight with 15 boards.
Katie Stuart led Keuka with 14 points.
The Wolfpack scored the game's first seven points before leading 10-3 with 12:57 left in the first. Penn College answered with a 14-0 scoring run – paced by six points each from Mowery and Bova – to take a 17-10 lead with 8:08 left before halftime. Ross scored five straight points and gave Penn College its largest lead of the half, 28-16, with 3:22 on the clock before leading 29-18 at halftime.
The Wildcats gradually increased their lead to open the second half before taking their largest advantage, 44-30, after a Steer layup with 5:29 left in the game. Keuka made a final push with a 14-4 rally in the final five minutes of the game but it was too little, too late.
Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 5 p.m., hosting Lancaster Bible College.
