MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – Penn College concluded its Spring Break baseball trip with three close loses. The Wildcats dropped a 10-7 decision to Hood, fell to No. 18 Bridgewater College, 16-11, and lost to Washington College 7-5. Penn College is 1-7.
Against Hood,
Both teams scored five runs in the first two innings.
Cole Weachock stroked a RBI single in the first,
Deric Ellerman had a sacrifice hit in the second before
Zach Weil belted a three-run double in the second inning. Hood tacked on four in the fourth and one in the seventh, while the Wildcats picked up a run in the sixth and eighth innings, both on RBIs by Weachock.
Jeremy Rall went 3 for 4 from the Plate for the Wildcats, Weachock finished 2 for 5 with 3 RBI and Weil was 2 for 4 with 3 RBI.
Tyler Hostrander took the loss in three innings of work with seven strikeouts, two walks and seven earned runs.
Against Bridgewater,
Penn College led the No. 18 ranked Eagles 7-0 through the first three innings. Weil and Weachock picked up RBIs in the first, Weachock added two more runs in the second with a double,
James Simasek smacked a two-run double and
Noah Esposito brought in a run with a single. BC added a run in the fourth before Penn College took a 9-1 lead after RBI doubles by both
Evan Vigna and Weachock in the fourth.
Bridgewater added seven runs in the sixth and four runs in both the seventh and eighth innings.
Against Washington College,
Weil put the Wildcats ahead 3-0 with a three-run shot in the first inning. The Shoreman pumped in six runs in the fifth and one in the sixth to take a 7-3 lead. Penn College picked up RBIs from
Vin Cumella and Esposito in the seventh.
