WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College dropped a pair of non-conference softball games to Alfred University Tuesday. The Saxons won game one 7-3 and took the second 7-1 and improved to 22-2. Penn College fell to 7-15.
In Game One,
The Saxons took an early 2-0 lead in the first inning before
Jessica Gmerek belted a one run double to left plating
Katie Kratzer. The Wildcats added two runs in the second on
Karey Wolfe's two run single. Which scored both
Nicole Lo Furno and
Arika Stopper, and gave Penn College a 3-2 lead.
Alfred University added three runs in the third and two in the fourth and held the Wildcats scoreless the remainder of the contest.
Macie Lucas led Penn College at the plate with two hits. Kerri Keeler improved to 6-0 after five innings, four strikeouts and no runs.
Arika Stopper fell to 5-5 after four innings of work, allowing 10 hits and seven runs (six earned).
In Game Two,
Alfred University jumped out to a 4-0 lead through three innings before the Wildcats put their lone run on the board when
Alexandra Brennan brought in Lo Furno in the bottom of the third. Alfred tacked on three runs in the sixth inning.
Wolfe and
Shelby Lyter both finished with two hits for Penn College.
Shannon Schaefer improved to 4-0 with a complete-game five hitter. Lyter fell to 2-6 for the Wildcats.
Penn College returns to action Thursday, 3 p.m., hosting Lycoming College.
SCHEDULE NOTE: Penn College added a home doubleheader, April 22, against SUNY Cobleskill beginning at 3:30 p.m. The game is a make-up from an earlier postponement.
