WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College dropped a pair of non-conference softball games to Lycoming College Thursday at Elm Park. The Warriors scored 10 runs in the final two frames of the first game to secure a 15-8 win, and plated three runs in the final two innings of the nightcap to win 6-4. Penn College fell to 7-17, while Lycoming College improved to 14-10.
In Game One,
The Warriors took an early 3-0 lead after a trio of runs in the first inning. Penn College used a sacrifice fly from
Samantha Hill and a
Stephanie Kramer single to right in the second inning to close the gap to 3-2.
Shelby Lyter's RBI single in the third inning for the Wildcats evened the game at 3-3.
Lycoming College plated two runs in the top of the fourth to lead 5-3 before Penn College knocked in four in the bottom of the fourth to lead 7-5. An error plated Hill,
Breanna Abbey belted a RBI single to left and
Jessica Gmerek stroked a two run single to center for the Wildcats.
Lycoming pulled away in the sixth and seventh with five runs in each, and Penn College added one run in the bottom of the seventh on a Hill sacrifice fly to left.
Abbey,
Macie Lucas,
Arika Stopper and Kramer all finished with two hits for Penn College.
Caroline Lapano improved to 6-3 for Lycoming College, while Lyter was saddled with the loss for Penn College.
In Game Two,
The Warriors used another quick start with three runs in the first inning before RBIs from Gmerek and Lucas in the bottom of the first made it 3-2.
After four scoreless innings from both sides, the teams traded two-run innings in the sixth. After the Warriors took a 5-2 lead, Penn College pulled within one after
Karey Wolfe's single plated both Hill and Lyter. Lycoming added an insurance run in the top of the seventh.
Wolfe, Gmerek and
Alexandra Brennan each finished with two hits for Penn College.
Kristi Weaver improved to 5-5 for Lycoming with a complete-game effort, while Lyter took the loss after going 5.1 innings.
Penn College returns to action Saturday, 1 p.m., hosting Keuka College.
