WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – Penn College split a pair of North Eastern Athletic Conference baseball games Sunday against Lancaster Bible College. The Wildcats won the first game 8-0 before the Chargers rallied in the seventh of the nightcap to secure a 3-2 win. Penn College, winners of five of the last six games, sits at 4-4 NEAC, 10-13 overall, while LBC is 4-6, 10-15.
In Game One,
Penn College added its first run in the third when a passed ball plated
Jeremy Rall. The Wildcats tacked on two in the sixth inning when
Evan Vigna stroked a double to center and
Cole Weachock reached on a fielder's choice that scored Vigna.
Penn College exploded for five runs in the eighth inning.
Noah Esposito started the onslaught with a RBI single,
Andrew Bucher cleared the bases with a three-run double to center and
Dylan Scaringi plated Bucher with a double to left.
Rall, Vigna and Bucher all finished with two hits for the Wildcats.
Tyler Cooklin improved to 2-2 with five scoreless innings and two hits. He struck out eight and walked seven.
Max Bair and
Zach Junk combined for four perfect innings in relief and allowed no base runners, while striking out two batters each.
In Game Two,
Both teams traded a run in the opening frame for a 1-1 deadlock which lasted five more innings. Justin Taylor launched a solo homer to left for LBC before Vigna's sacrifice fly to center scored Rall in the bottom of the first.
The Wildcats took a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Esposito singled to center which plated Weachock. Lancaster Bible added two runs in the top of the seventh on a two-run single by Ben Elliott to take a 3-2 lead. Penn College ended the game with runners on first and third.
Kyle Fox fired six innings for Penn College with three strikeouts, two walks and earned run but earned a no-decision. Junk relieved Fox and surrendered two earned runs.
Will Zweizig improved to 1-0 for Lancaster Bible.
Penn College returns to action Tuesday, 2 p.m., hosting Mansfield.
